Reimagining and Reinventing HVAC for a Worldwide Pandemic

Active HVAC countermeasures to the worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic are not one size fits all. Unfortunately a panacea does not yet exist. At Critical Systems we bring over 650+ years of engineering and manufacturing experience to bear on the vexing problem at hand: cost vs. efficacy. Our knowledge, experience and body of work in the manufacturing and application of HVAC ASME-N510 filtration containment housings, ASME-N509 HEPA and custom air handling equipment uniquely positions us to assist in this crisis. However you prefer to say it: we provide engineering experience and knowhow in the areas of containment of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) or Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR). We have worked with and have provided mission critical HVAC equipment to the FDA, Naval Facilities, Department of Defense, US Department of State, Bio-Pharma labs, data centers, telecommunication and secure clients around the world. This experience provides us a broad knowledge base to draw from for our clients. We are able to right size mission critical HVAC equipment for a wide spectrum of needs and cost constraints.

The harsh reality is that unless you live in mission critical space a client would not know that a HEPA filter purchased at a big box store or from a comfort cooling manufacturer in no way resembles an ASME N-509 filter meant for life safety. It saddens us to see a new pandemic in our industry: the misapplication of UV lights hoping to neutralize viruses moving at 500 to 2000 feet per minute. We have seen how the US market has been scrambling to do the right thing as they prepare to reopen their businesses and serve their clients. As many small offices and building owners are left to turn to big box stores, plumbing and comfort cooling providers for life safety technical support that goes beyond good optics. Some clients have both the time and money to properly reposition their equipment to fully address the problem at hand. By contrast and in recognition that most of the world has neither the pocketbook nor the time to convert their school or office to a Biosafety Level 3 or 4 (BSL-3,4) laboratory we have spent the past eight weeks working to gain access to patented countermeasures and to bring to market new products that can bridge the gap that currently exists between cost and efficacy.  Our goal is straightforward: leverage our expertise to help reopen the US economy and in particular our home cities of Baltimore, Boston, Manchester, Providence and Washington, DC as rapidly as possible. This is more than just optics, the right equipment properly applied can help to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The key factors we must all weigh to counter attack the virus include:

    1. Filtration
    2. Humidification and Humidification control
    3. Ventilation and Dilution
    4. Gas Phase Countermeasures

We have complete solutions that can be tailored to the needs and budgets of:- Office Buildings
